Online retail giants – Flipkart and Snapdeal are in talks with companies that can help them to verify the identity of the consumers before they dispatch the orders.

This step was the consequence of the huge losses worth crores of rupees suffered by ecommerce companies on account of false mailing addresses.

The identification is done through credit card information and mobile number to enable security, according to Chirag Bakshi, Chief Executive of Zumigo, a start up backed by Intel Capital and Wells Fargo.

Zumigo plans to tie up with telecom companies to identify whether the customer is at the location before delivering the goods in case of COD (cash-on-delivery).  Information from telecom companies will help Zumigo to reduce its delivery costs, however might find it difficult to tie up with Credit Bureaus in India that are regulated under Credit Information Companies Regulation Act. The act unable them to share information with organizations other than specified users.
