Upcoming festive season will see aggressive discounts offered by ecommerce players targeting the mobile users to push repeat purchases. This time the focus will shift to home and kitchen decor categories.
The focus still lies in the gaining highest GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume), an important metric in e-retail world to ensure continued interest of customers in the online space. The strategy will benefit the app-users giving them additional 5% discount as cashback, reward and wallet points keeping them hooked.
This festive season, acquiring shoppers on mobile is going to be top priority as it provides precious data to various marketplaces.
Ashok Reddy, Founder of Groupon, a curated couponing site said that, to offer incentives in the form of wallet points tier-2 ecommerce players are tying up with virtual wallets like Mobikwik and PayU.
The uptake on loyalty programmes in India has been sluggish as the loyalty points are not offered generously according to Swati Bhargava, Co-founder of Cashkaro, a cashback site.
She also said that discounts are quite conservative at around 20-30%, where as minimum order value on flat-out discounts has gone up over the years.
